Even the top police officer in the North Okanagan has scams aimed at him.
Supt. Reg Burgess, on Thursday, received an e-mail purported to be from the Canada Revenue Agency stating that the agency “identified an error in the calculation of your tax from the last payment…”
The e-mail said Burgess had to create an account “after which the funds will be credited to your specified bank account.”
Canada Revenue Agency does not operate in this manner.
“It just goes to show that everyone is a target to this type of deceit in attempts to get your personal information so they can relieve you of your money, or, worse, your identity,” said Vernon-North Okanagan RCMP spokesperson Gord Molendyk.
There are several reports that the same e-mail has surfaced with several seniors in the Armstrong area as well.
The police are reminding everyone to be careful, do not respond to this type of solicitation, and report any suspicious activity to the police or to the National Fraud Center at 1-888-495-8501
