Creston RCMP received 81 calls for service from June 19-26.

Creston RCMP received 81 calls for service from June 19-26, Staff Sgt. Ryan Currie said on Tuesday, including three on one day about individuals screaming or yelling for different reasons.

June 19

• A vulnerable young person who did not return home on schedule was located safe and without incident.

• When police located a person reported to be driving an ATV while intoxicated and with a suspended licence he was belligerent, but not observed driving, so charges were unwarranted.

• A vehicle was seized and the driver was charged following a minor collision. The vehicle was uninsured.

• When police found a number of youths smoking marijuana on Canyon Street the drug was seized and their parents were spoken to.

June 20

• A male found driving away from the scene of a reported alcohol-fueled dispute was given a 90-day driving prohibition.

• A local business’s fenced yard was broken into and a quantity of wire was stolen. The investigation continues.

• A male involved in a disturbance in Canyon was arrested and found to have outstanding warrants for breach of probation.

• A vehicle that reportedly had a dog inside on a hot day was gone when police arrived.

• A butterfly collector from Ontario was spoken to about camping on private property in Kitchener.

• Driver doing 146 km/h on Highway 3A was charged with driving with excessive speed and the vehicle was impounded.

June 21

• The driver of a vehicle stopped for erratic driving on Highway 3 in Creston ended, with charges for impaired driving, drug possession, no insurance, no driver’s licence, breach of probation and wrong licence plate.

• When police investigated a threat the matter was settled with a peace bond.

• Police received a report about a telephone scam in which the caller said he was with RBC and asked to purchase iTunes gift cards and provide their numbers.

• Police were asked to intervene in a years-long neighbours’ dispute.

“We have received a number of complaints regarding neighbour disputes and property disputes,” Currie said. “Upon listening to the issues, we usually find that the dispute is civil in nature. The RCMP is not responsible for civil matters, and we do not intervene on anyone’s behalf in such matters. If you are told that a matter is civil, we advise that a lawyer be contacted as they can fully explain your rights and obligations.”

June 22

• Police separated parties involved in a domestic dispute in which property was damaged and then continued the investigation.

• Police spoke to parties involved in a family dispute and no further issues arose.

June 23

• When police responded to a call about a woman in distress in Sirdar they heard a woman screaming in a forest. She was suffering from drug abuse and police took her to hospital for assessment.

• A break-in to a Creston resident netted thieves a number of bottles of wine. Police are on the lookout for sophisticated criminals.

• Police responded to another report of a person yelling, this time in Wynndel. The hitchhiker was afraid there was an animal in the bushes. He was driven to catch public transportation.

• Another screamer was reported to be yelling at no one in particular on Canyon Street but she was not located.

• Alcohol was determined to be a contributing factor in a family disturbance in Creston where an assault suspect was arrested.

• A report of gunshots in Erickson was found to be fireworks.

• When police responded to a call about an armed male in Crawford Bay he turned out to have a toy cap gun.

June 24

• Parties reported to be fighting at a local business in town were gone when police arrived.

• A complaint about harassment on Facebook was received.

• A hit and run in Crawford Bay was investigated.

June 25

• One member of a family involved in a dispute that led to a police visit left voluntarily to avoid further problems.

• RCMP members headed to the US border to assist US border agents with a suspicious vehicle, but it was not found.

• When a reported speeding driver on Kootenay Pass was stopped he was found to have taken drugs. They were seized and he was issued a 24-hour driving suspension.

June 26

• Police were called to investigate threats, but no charges are pending.
