SD62 trustee candidates introduced at Langford all-candidates forum

Eight candidates are running for four spots

Sooke School District trustee candidates have been making their rounds at the all-candidates forums on the West Shore.

The candidates got one minute to speak at the Langford all-candidates forum.

The Sooke School District is composed of seven trustees, four from Belmont zone and three from Milne’s Landing Zone.

Ravi Parmar is running for re-election, and his priority has been building schools over the past four years and that will continue to be his mandate moving forward.

Incumbent Dianna Seaton said she is dedicated to acquiring land for the future and proud of the nature kindergarten programs and wellness centre at Belmont that were put in place during the last term.

Wendy Hobbs has served as a trustee for 22 years and she wants to ensure students and staff have a “safe, inclusive and positive learning environment.”

Cendra Beaton volunteered in the Sooke School District for the last five years and serves as the president for Canadian Parents for French (CPF) to advocate for SD62, and was elected to CPF at the provincial level.

Bob Beckett, former Langford Fire Chief, wants to continue to give back to the community and to students as a school board trustee.

Trudy Spiller is an active community member and wants the SD62 to have class sizes that supports learning.

Chief Russ Chipps has worked with the District for the past 10 years. He started to engage with students, teachers and staff when his children were in school and has noticed a positive change in equality over the last 10 years. He wants to give back to what he feels is a respectful community.

Blair Sloane wants to put efforts towards a wellness plan to encourage academic success and promote the resistance to substance abuse.
