SD69 re-creates director of instruction position for 2019-20 school year

Position will add leadership and support for students and staff

The Board of Education of School District 69 has announced the re-creation of the director of instruction position starting in the 2019/20 school year.

This position, which had been part of the district in prior years, will add much-needed leadership and support for students and staff during increasingly complex times, according to a media release from SD69. The full cost of the position will come from realignment of administrative responsibilities at the district level; the board remains committed to keeping resources as close to the classroom as possible.

The school district will be looking for someone who has broad leadership experience in public education and who can lead in emerging critical areas such as: implementing the new B.C. graduation program; liaising with post-secondary institutions; supporting mental health initiatives and supports for vulnerable learners; infusing effective uses of technology in learning; communicating with parents and communities; supporting the best work of principals and vice-principals; supporting children and families of Indigenous ancestry; and finding new ways to ensure that all students graduate with dignity, purpose and options.

“In Qualicum schools we know that a strong public education system is the cornerstone of a strong and healthy society,” said SD69 board chair Eve Flynn. “And we know that quality learning environments require quality school and district level leadership. The re-instatement of this position will create space and motivation for leaders across the district to devote more of their time and energy to serving children and families. We look forward to finding just the right person for this important work.”
