Seabird Island is issuing a reminder for residents to stay safe and follow COVID-19 precautions after a positive case was found in the community.
The band shared the reminder on its Facebook page on Jan. 5, saying there had been a positive case of COVID-19 in the community. For privacy, the name of the person affected was not shared.

“We understand that news like this is bound to cause some anxiety and fear,” Chief Jim Harris wrote in the notice. “The rising case numbers bring a higher risk of being infected.
“Yet our recent situation carries the gift of opportunity to relay a message to all of you: Remember how much power you have to safeguard your own well-being and that of your family, and exercise it with a good mind and good heart as the coming days unfold.”
The notice also reminds residents to follow COVID-19 protocols such as mask wearing and restricting gatherings.
