Search and rescue members look toward new building

Terrace SAR purchases land for new headquarters that's big enough for now and future

Terrace Search and Rescue (SAR) moves closer to having its own building with the recent purchase of land for the structure.

On Nov. 29, SAR member Dave Jephson announced that the property at 4455 Greig Ave., which has sat vacant for a long time, was bought for a new building.

Jephson said right now SAR has equipment stored in three different locations and has outgrown its current headquarters, further down Greig Ave.

SAR has grown in number of members and amount of equipment, will continue to grow and needs more space and a place for members to train, meet, heal and support each other under one roof, saif Jephson.

A concept design for a building is being drawn up and SAR has submitted a proposal to BC Gaming for a capital project grant, he added.

BC Gaming’s amount of support will determine the building plans, he said.

In the new year, SAR will begin a fundraising campaign to cover the northern part of the province, the area that SAR has and continues to respond to, added Jephson.

Those interested parties who would like to help with the project may contact SAR at NewTerraceSARHall@gmail.com.
