Search for 18-year-old Dallas MacLeod extended to Victoria

18-year-old last seen in Nanaimo

Nanaimo RCMP are now actively looking for Duncan’s Dallas MacLeod.

The 18-year-old, who has gone missing numerous times over the last two years and has usually been located within days of each disappearance, was last seen in Nanaimo on Aug. 23 after she was reported missing from her group home in the Valley on Aug. 10.

The North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP detachment reported her found on Aug. 23, but the Nanaimo RCMP are stating she hasn’t been located since then and the search for her continues in that city.

Nanaimo RCMP Const. Gary O’Brien said tips from the public have led police to believe that she may have been staying at Nanaimo’s controversial Discontent City, a tent city the homeless have set up in the downtown core.

He said MacLeod has been on Facebook recently, and there have been reports of her being seen in Victoria, and police are checking out these tips as well.

“We have no eyes on her at this time,” O’Brien said.

“Given her living situation and lifestyle choices, her family and friends are extremely worried for her well-being.”

RELATED STORY: DALLAS MACLEOD MISSING AGAIN

O’Brien acknowledged that MacLeod is 18 years old and is considered an adult who is responsible for her own actions, but the police would still like to chat with her anyway.

“There’s nothing we can do for her other than locate her and ensure that she is safe,” he said.

“We would like to talk to her and see if she has another place to live, and maybe convince her to change her life’s path. We’re confident that we’ll have eyes on her again soon.”

MacLeod’s mother, whose name was not given, said last year after a previous disappearance of her daughter that she’s frustrated the system was not doing nearly enough to help Dallas.

MacLeod’s mother said Dallas has been ordered by the courts to remain at group homes she had been staying in after disappearing before, but she constantly just walks away and the justice system is failing to hold her to account when she is finally located, usually by family members after scouring the streets and seeking information from street people who know her.

MacLeod is Métis and is 5 foot 2, 100 pounds with blonde hair and green eyes.

If you have information on the whereabouts of MacLeod, call the Nanaimo RCMP at 250-754-2345.
