A man in his sixties is missing and presumed drowned on Elliot Lake, north of Fort St. James.

On Sunday at 4 p.m., RCMP received a call a man was missing on Elliot Lake.

The man had been out fishing alone in his boat when the person he was camping with looked up from shore and noticed the boat was empty.

Unable to get to the boat, the camper drove into cell service range to call for help from Fort St. James RCMP who then initiated a search with Fort St. James Search and Rescue (SAR).

The boat was located and one RCMP member and five or six SAR personnel continue to look for the missing man’s body using underwater cameras.

The RCMP dive team is on standby.

The incident does not appear to be suspicious in nature and the name of the missing man is not being released.
