Search resumes for missing Lumby area man

RCMP divers are expected to be along the Shuswap River Friday

The search will resume for a Lumby area man presumed drowned in the Shuswap River.

A vehicle plunged into the river, near the dam off Mabel Lake Road, June 14 and high water conditions have hampered the search for the vehicle’s lone occupant ever since.

“We’re looking at going in Friday,” said Gord Molendyk, RCMP spokesperson.

“The water has come down and the dive team is looking at going in to recover the vehicle.”

The RCMP have been working with B.C. Hydro, which operates the dam, as part of the search.

“Hydro is trying to cut back the flow to bring down the water levels further,” said Molendyk.

The police were called to the scene June 14 after a a motorist saw a pickup truck leave the road and go into the river.

The identity of the operator of the vehicle has not been released yet.
