A search of a home by Nanaimo Mounties bagged drugs, cash and two suspects Wednesday.
Police seized various amounts of heroin, methamphetamine, crack cocaine and marijuana, plus $2,000 in Canadian cash during the search, which happened at a home on the 600 block of Pine Street at about 5:30 p.m.
Police were particularly interested in activities at the home because it located across the street from the Nanaimo Boys and Girls Club, said Const. Gary O’Brien, Nanaimo RCMP spokesman.
Investigators arrested a 40-year-old man who tried to flee the premises through a sliding glass door and quickly stumbled into the outstretched arms of waiting officers.
He was held in custody overnight and was scheduled to appear in Nanaimo provincial court Thursday to face recommended charges of four counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking.
The accused was released from jail several months ago after serving time for similar drug related offences, so investigators are also recommending a mandatory minimum sentence be applied with the new drug charges.
A 23-year-old woman also at the home when police arrived was taken into custody, but later was later released without charges.
