The City of Terrace is now accepting applications for their new Safety and Security Improvement grant program for businesses and property owners.

Upgrades are around Crime Prevention through Environmental Design (CPTED), which is aimed at deterring criminal activity by using building and landscape designs. This could include the installation of extra lighting, fencing, alarm systems and surveillance cameras, among other options.

The City of Terrace established a $10,000 fund for CPTED upgrades for business and property owners last December. The grant will pay for 50 per cent of the costs, with a $1,000 maximum limit per project.

The city’s bylaw officer will be conducting assessments and providing recommendations to businesses for potential projects.

The application deadline is May 15. Submitted forms can be given to the city’s development services office on Graham Ave. Applications must be sent prior to any construction or improvements.
