The Penticton Fire Department has responded to multiple calls, only to find nothing but the smoke from the wildfire sitting up above the hills over the city.
From downtown Penticton, a large white plume of smoke can be spotted towering up into the sky.
The smoke from the Thomas Creek wildfire is visible from across the South Okanagan.
As of the latest update from BC Wildfire at 11:30 a.m. July 14, the blaze covered an area of 1,500 hectares.
Currently, over 700 properties in the RDOS are under an evacuation alert due to the fire. The evacuation order of 77 properties was rescinded on Monday.
The Western News will update the size of the fire once that information is available.
