It’s time once again to recognize the year in business excellence on the Saanich Peninsula.
The eighth annual Crystal Awards, presented by the Saanich Peninsula Chamber of Commerce, are set for Oct. 23 at Butchart Gardens. Denny Warner, the Chamber’s executive director, says it’s an event that recognizes the innovation and excellence of local business. There are 12 categories in which businesses of every stripe compete — all they require is a nomination.
The nomination period is open, Warner said, and this year she is encouraging the businesses themselves to speak up about their accomplishments this past year.
“This year, I have put out a request for businesses to nominate themselves,” Warner said. “After all, no one else knows their business and what they have done like they do.”
The judging process, she noted, does not look at who does the nominating, only that the business has been nominated. From there, the panel works to pick the winner in each category.
“If a business has done something really amazing, I’m sure they’d want people to know about it.”
Nomination forms can be obtained through the Chamber office on Beacon Avenue in Sidney or by calling them at 250-656-3616.
Tickets for the gala evening will be put on sale soon — watch for those through the chamber office and board members. Warner added a guest speaker has been lined up but they are waiting for official confirmation before announcing who it is.
As well, this year’s Chamber Lifetime Achievement Award has been determined — Terry Stewart, formerly of the Victoria Airport Authority. Warner said the evening will be a chance to celebrate Stewart’s accomplishments among friends.
The 2014 Crystal Awards start at 6 p.m. at Butchart Gardens.
