Ruth King elementary in Langford is undergoing a seismic upgrade. The $4.2-million project will see the entire two-storey portion of the school and gym re-fitted. In 1999, the single-storey potion of the school received seismic upgrades.
New work will include upgrading the school’s roof, gym, foundation and windows while also reinforcing interior and exterior walls. Work started at the beginning of the month and is expected to be finished by December 2017.
“SD62 is so pleased that Ruth King elementary will be getting a good seismic re-fit in preparation to serve another generation of West Shore children,” said Bob Phillips, chair of the SD62 board of education, in a statement.
