A suspect was arrested but no charges were laid following a robbery in downtown Vernon Saturday.
RCMP report a 79-year-old man had just taken an undisclosed amount of money out of the ATM at the Scotiabank branch on 30th Avenue when he was approached by a man in his 50s.
“The money was stolen from the elderly man,” said Gord Molendyk, Vernon RCMP spokesperson.
“Our officers made patrols of the area and a male suspect was arrested.”
Molendyk said the file remains under investigation and that police are continuing to do follow-up work on the incident, including checking on a report that the victim may have made prior contact with the suspect.
“The man believes he had spoken to the suspect a few weeks before, and it appears the suspect followed the man to the bank,” said Molendyk.
It is believed the money stolen has not been recovered.
