RCMP are on the hunt for an alleged thief who snatched a senior woman’s purse.
Vernon North Okanagan RCMP were called to the Village Green Centre parking lot just before 8 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 23 after a purse was stolen from a woman walking back to her vehicle.
The 72-year-old woman was pushed to the ground from behind and her purse was stolen by a man who fled eastbound on foot. The victim was visibly shaken up, but uninjured. Several witnesses chased after him, but lost him after a short pursuit.
RCMP flooded the area, and a police services dog assisted in the investigation, but the male was not located.
The suspect is described as Caucasian male, 5’5″ to 5’6″, thin build, patchy short facial hair and wearing a dark hoodie pulled over his head.
“This is a callous and despicable act. We are asking anyone with information regarding this crime to contact us or CrimeStoppers immediately,” said Const. Jocelyn Noseworthy. “A person capable of this behaviour needs to be held accountable for his actions.”
