Golden Fire Rescue attended two commercial false alarms last week.
Last Saturday, crews attended a local business to investigate a smell of propane, coming in on the heels of call medical call, which was followed by a motor vehicle incident on Highway 95 in town.
An excavator had fallen from a trailer. Members investigated the scene to ensure fire and life safety ,and mitigated a small amount of spilled oil.
Golden Fire Rescue was called back to the downtown area on Monday for another complaint of the smell of propane. The building was evacuated, but no leaks were found using the detection equipment, and the operator of the propane system was notified.
Last Friday two firefighters, Jay LaRoy and Rob Perry, joined a crew and engine from Invermere and are now working to protect the St. Mary’s area of Kimberley from wildfire.
Their duties include assessing properties and installing sprinkler protection equipment on buildings at risk of fire. This response is as a result of the a request from the Office of the Fire Commissioner under the recently declared province-wide state of emergency. In addition to their structural firefighting training, Golden’s firefighters receive training in wildland and interface firefighting to enable them to safely perform in the unique wildland interface environment.
Golden-Field RCMP
The Golden-Field RCMP received 85 files this week, including 22 traffic complaints (which accounted for one quarter of the calls), seven abandoned 911 calls, six collisions, four thefts, three disturbances, and two calls about mischief.
