Golden Fire Department

On Tuesday, September 4, Golden Fire Rescue responded to a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of 9th Street and 8th Avenue South

While personnel were still at that scene, they were summoned to a report of a rollover motor vehicle incident involving a tractor trailer on Highway 1 west of Golden. Crews were advised that the vehicle involved was from a prior incident and returned to the fire hall.

Members responded to a report of an electrocution at a local residence on Wednesday, September 5. Crews administered CPR with BC Ambulance personnel and assisted in transporting the patient to Golden District Hospital.

The patient was later flown to a Calgary hospital by STARS air ambulance for further treatment.

The balance of the week saw three other medical calls that were responded to by fire department first responders and BC Ambulance.

Conservations Officers Service

Conservation Officers issued a number of enforcement actions for fishing violations on the Columbia River during the past week.

Officers also responded to a report of an aggressive black bear in Revelstoke. The bear initially became quite habituated after spending considerable time living in residential fruit trees.

On the morning of Tuesday September 4, a resident went out to set his garbage bin at the end of his driveway for pick up.

The bear got into the garbage and when the resident went to clean up the mess, the bear charged at him, forcing the resident back into his home. The bear was subsequently destroyed.

Officers would like to remind residents to secure all attractants, primarily garbage and fruit. When bears become habituated and comfortable in urban environments, the behaviour often evolves into aggression.
