Golden Fire Rescue
In the past week, Golden Fire Rescue has only received three calls for service.
The first call came in on Wednesday, November 14, which was the busiest day for firefighters. The first call was for a rolled over tractor trailer under the bridge at the top of Golden Hill on the Trans Canada Highway. Responding crews ensured no dangerous goods were on board, which is always a concern for firefighters. The sole occupant of the vehicle was clear of the accident when crews arrived on scene. A small fuel leak was managed and the entire scene checked for fire and life safety hazards. The vehicle completely blocked all west bound lanes resulting in a highway closure for several hours. Motorists are reminded to adjust their driving to winter conditions and constantly be wary of impediments in the travelled portion of the roadway, whether vehicles or wildlife.
Later on that snowy day, crews were called to a multi vehicle crash west of town on the Trans Canada Highway. Arriving units found four tractor trailers involved in a collision – all upright on their wheels, some with significant damage. Scene safety was ensured and investigation determined occupants were clear of all vehicles. Access to the incident was challenging due to stopped motorists blocking the route to the crash.
“We ask that you always provide [room] for emergency vehicle access at all times,” said fire Chief Dave Balding.
The most recent call for Golden Fire Rescue was a response to a medical emergency south of Golden. Fire personnel assisted BC Ambulance load the patient for transportation to the Golden and District Hospital.
Golden-Field RCMP
Local RCMP received 47 call outs last week. Thirteen of the calls were for collisions, amounting to just over a quarter of the calls. Another five were traffic complaints, and five motor vehicle incidents occurred on November 14, and four happened on November 15.
Golden-Field RCMP also had six abandoned 911 calls, two assaults, and a theft of a motor vehicle. Details on the theft are not yet available.
On November 10, the Golden-Field RCMP began investigating a shots fired complaint after a bullet hole was discovered in the kitchen window of a residence on Althoff Rd.
“We believe that the incident occurred sometime between the hours of 5:00 pm on November 9 and 4:00 am on November 10,” says Cst. Spencer Lainchbury with the Golden-Field RCMP. “We are still investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident and are looking to speak with anyone who may have heard gunshots in the area.”
