Grand Forks residents will have a choice of seven candidates to choose from in the upcoming byelection, which takes place Saturday, May 28.
Candidates had from Tuesday, April 12 until Thursday, April 22 to submit their papers. The candidates are Zachary Eburne-Stoodley, Ken Johnston, Cathy Korolek, Patrick O’Doherty, Kyle Piper, Brian Taylor and Bev Tripp.
The byelection is for one position on council to fill the spot left vacant by the departure of Michael Wirischagin in August 2015.
Advanced voting will take place on Wednesday, May 18. Regular voting day is Saturday, May 28. Both advanced and regular voting will take place in council chambers at City Hall.
There will be an all-candidates forum in May presented by the Boundary Country Regional Chamber of Commerce although an exact date has yet to be announced. Each candidate will also be afforded an opportunity to present their views in an upcoming issue of the Gazette.
To vote, residents must be age 18 or older; a Canadian citizen; a resident of B.C. for at least six months before the day of registration, a resident of Grand Forks for at least 30 days; and, not disqualified by any enactment from voting or otherwise disqualified by law.
