The sound of shattering glass woke a man, who lives in the 1000-block of Hillside Avenue Wednesday morning.
Looking outside his window at 5 a.m., the resident saw a man breaking into vehicles in the parking lot behind his building.
Police arrived in time to watch a suspect dart into some bushes. The suspect was arrested, along with several duffel bags and a backpack.
Inside the bags, officers found what they believe was stolen property, plus several small bags of crystal meth.
The suspect, Kenneth Galloway, 33, was arrested. He is charged with three counts of possession of stolen property, three counts of theft from auto and one of possession of a controlled substance.
In the building’s parking lot, investigators determined seven vehicles were broken into, with items such as iPods and sunglasses stolen. But they were only able to link the suspect’s stolen property with three break-ins.
“Unless we have some really firm evidence, there’s a big difference between if we know somebody did it, and being able to prove somebody did it,” said Const. Mike Russell.
Galloway appeared in court Friday.
