A severe winter storm is expected to hit today.
Environment Canada has issued a warning for the North Coast and inland sections, including Terrace, Kitimat and Stewart.
Heavy snow will develop for northern inland areas this afternoon and as a warm front moves onto the coast, snow will change to freezing rain in Kitimat and spread towards Terrace.
Kitimat’s precipitation will likely turn to rain overnight as temperature rise to plus two by morning, with only about 10 cm expected during its snowfall.
Snow is expected to fall in Stewart tonight, with a snowfall totaling near 25 cm to arrive Tuesday morning.
Approximately 15 cm of snowfall is predicted in Terrace overnight, with a minus seven wind chill as wind is expected to rise up to 15 km/hr. Snow may change to freezing rain before morning.

Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow. Freezing rain will then glaze surfaces to become icy and slippery.
It’s advised to take extra care and plan more travel time when walking or driving during the warning.
