Contractors working on behalf of the City of Courtenay will be installing two new sewer manholes at the 20th Street and Riverside Lane intersection to improve flow in the sewer system.
Work is planned to commence early-September, and conclude in October. A small portion of the adjacent Riverway/Marina Park parking lot will be used as a temporary work area by the contractor throughout the project.
A Traffic Management Plan has been developed by the contractor and will be in place during the work. Vehicle and pedestrian access will be maintained for all residences, the Airpark, private parking lots and most of the Marina Park parking lot on 20th Street for the duration of the project. Traffic control personnel will be on site to direct vehicles, pedestrians and cyclists within the work area.
Emergency vehicle access and garbage pickup will be maintained throughout the project.
The construction contract was awarded through an open public competitive tendering process. Knappett Industries (2006) Ltd. was the successful bidder.
All regulatory permitting has been retained to support the works. As this work falls within a known archeologically sensitive area, appropriate permitting has been retained, and the site will be actively monitored during construction.
A separate, similar project nearby on Riverside Lane/17th Street is underway, continuing until late 2019.
Schedules will be updated as work progresses.
