One man has been arrested for allegedly groping a woman near Vancouver Island University.
The sexual assault happened Thursday at about 11 a.m. when a 23-year-old university student was walking along a foot path near the Rotary Bowl running track and noticed a man standing over a bicycle.
As she passed by the man struck up a conversation and started walking with her. When he allegedly grabbed her buttocks and chest, she fled and reported the incident to campus security.
Base on a description provided by the victim, police were able to find and arrest the suspect less than an hour later.
Daniel Raymond Sasseville, 38, was charged with one count of sexual assault Friday and is being held in custody until his next court appearance Monday (Feb. 25).
“This incident is being looked at in relation to other sex assaults that were reported in the past year and no arrests were made,” said Const. Gary O’Brien, Nanaimo RCMP spokesman. “It is, however, too early in the investigation to say whether this incident is related to those or not.”
