If Shannon Lake residents are interested, they could have a new floating dock to enhance fishing in Shannon Lake Regional Park.
The Regional District of the Central Okanagan has the opportunity to accept a $20,000 T-shaped dock, which is being donated by the Freshwater Fisheries Society of BC, the Habitat Conservation Trust Fund and the provincial government.
Bruce Smith, communications and intergovernmental affairs officer, said the regional district is hosting an open house at Shannon Lake Regional Park—located at Swite Road and Shannon Lake Road—Tuesday, June 24, from 4 to 7 p.m. to get feedback on the proposed project.
“There’s no cost to the regional district for this, other than any ongoing maintenance,” said Smith.
“And then we would have to come up with some kind of a trail leading to it so that it remains accessible for…everyone to use.”
Smith said the dock would provide enhanced fishing access for anglers of every age and skill level.
The proposed dock would be 48 feet long and eight feed wide, with guardrails and a connecting walkway that’s 32 feet long and six feet wide.
The regional district has already received some response from questionnaires, which were provided at its Go Fish events.
“There have been a couple people (who) have said they don’t want to see a dock in the park…(but) they didn’t really give any reasons.
“But there have been quite a few people who are positive about it because they see it as an opportunity to further enhance the fishing that’s available for people on Shannon Lake.”
Regional district staff will bring a report back to the board after feedback is received at Tuesday’s open house.
