This week, residents can get ready for glossy and luxurious jazz in Spirit Square as Elizabeth Shepherd brings her music back to Golden once again.

Her last performance was so great, Kicking Horse Culture has brought her back once again to play at Summer Kicks. This week, the show will be hosted on Tuesday, June 25 at 7 p.m. instead of the usual Wednesday show.

Shepherd has been an international sensation since 2006, and has received four Juno nominations since then. She has also been long-listed for Canada’s most prestigious music award, the Polaris, twice.

“[Shepherd] is playing a bunch of jazz festivals across the country. She’s played here maybe three times before in the past 10 years,” said Kicking Horse Culture executive director Bill Usher.

Adding to her list of tour stops, Shepherd is making her appearance in Golden, playing with local Will Wardwell as the in between set. Wardwell plays every Summer kicks music series, and is a long time favourite of the residents of Golden.

Wardwell has lived in the community for decades, and has played a role in Golden’s music scene for just as long. Usher describes his music as “very folky.”

Combining her skillful piano and vocals, Shepherd brings a unique and distinct presence to the stage.

“It is certainly her own style of jazz,” Usher said.

With five albums, there is plenty to preview before Shepherd arrives in Golden. For more information, and to find some of her music, go to www.kickinghorseculture.ca. View the full schedule, and preview upcoming artists.
