Abbotsford Police are investigating a shooting incident that occurred on Tuesday afternoon, but which has produced no victims or suspects.
Sgt. Judy Bird said reports came in at about 1:15 p.m. that shots had been fired in the intersection of Whatcom and Old Yale roads in east Abbotsford near the Sumas Mountain Village shopping plaza.
Bird said police found bullet casings on the road, but the vehicles(s) and people involved had fled the area. The Lower Mainland Integrated Police Dog Service was deployed but no suspects were located.
Bird said the incident is believed to be targeted, but the motive is not known at this time.
Officers are on scene and are continuing to canvass for witnesses and video or footage.
Not long after the reports were received of shots fired, a car was reported on fire on Montesina Avenue, a rural area west of Lefeuvre Road in west Abbotsford, not far from the Aldergrove border.
Bird said police do not know at this time whether the torched vehicle is linked to the shooting.
Anyone who witnessed the shooting or who might have dashcam footage of the intersection between 12:30 and 1:20 p.m. Tuesday is asked to contact the Abbotsford Police Department at 604-859-5225.
