With the drama only a low-flying Sea King helicopter can provide, Sidney volunteer firefighters started their 100th anniversary celebrations in style Saturday morning.
A 67-fire truck-strong parade moved down Beacon Avenue Saturday morning, featuring classic trucks from the early 1900s, to more modern equipment. A horse-drawn steamer unit was popular, as was the Victoria airport’s water-spraying vehicle.
People lined the main street to celebrate along with the firefighters. Trucks came into town from alloverĀ Vancouver Island, the mainland and Washington State.
Activities continue all day, with a truck show and shine and fire department demonstrations at the Sidney fire hall on Third Street.
A gala dinner and awards night happens this evening for firefighters and invited guests at the Mary Winspear Centre.
