Top local and national freestyle ski and snowboard talent will compete for cash prizes at Silver Star Mountain Resort.
The 11th annual Showdown Throwdown Hoedown takes place Saturday and Sunday.
“The depth of the local talent pool is amazing,” said Erik Kalacis, director of sales and marketing.
“The biggest reasons for that are the community’s dedication to skier and snowboarder development, along with our incredible park, which is looking better than it ever has.”
Professional and amateur skiers and snowboarders will show off their skills on the expert-level rails and huge jumps in the Rockstar Terrain Park, which was recently named one of Canada’s best terrain parks by Ski Canada magazine.
“The crew has worked really hard to develop the park and their passion paid off,” said Kalacis.
“It’s going to make this year’s Showdown a great weekend and a fantastic way to start winding down the season.”
Showdown Throwdown Hoedown spectators can walk up to the terrain park from the village to take in the action.
Training runs and heats are scheduled for Saturday, with the finals Sunday. Categories include pro and amateur men’s and women’s ski and snowboard.
Registration in person is in the National Altitude Training Centre Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, from 8 to 10 a.m. and Saturday from 8 to 9 a.m. Online registration for the event is currently open at www.skisilverstar.com.
Skiers are required to hold a Can Freestyle 3 or 4 license and snowboarders require a B.C. Snowboard membership. Helmets are mandatory.
