An historic agreement on cooperation was recently signed by representatives of the Simpcw First Nation and the Adams Lake Band.
The two communities are both members of the Secwepemc (Shuswap) Nation, an indigenous nation with a vast territory in the southern and central regions of British Columbia, encompassing the drainage basins of the South Thompson and North Thompson rivers.
“Simpcw First Nation and the Adams Lake Band share a common heritage and a common interest in the sustainable and equitable management of resources within our respective portions of Secwepemc territory,” said Acting Chief Fred Fortier.
Chief Nelson Leon of Adams Lake Band stated that the agreement between the two communities would bring long term mutual benefits through cooperation in political, economic, and social matters, and through the strengthening of mutual ties of culture, friendship and family connections between Adams Lake Band and Simpcw First Nation.
