Six survive after pickup swerves into inletA single-cab truck carrying six adults went over the side of the main road in Queen Charlotte in the early morning hours of Feb. 26 and landed upside down in the ocean. The driver and passengers were taken to the hospital after the accident and treated, says Sgt. Rob Knapton. The accident could have been much worse, he said. “They were very lucky it was low tide,” he said, so the water was relatively shallow. “It looked pretty awful.” The truck had been driving east when it lost control due to icy conditions around the 3600 block of Oceanview Drive, and went over the bank, Sgt. Knapton said. The accident occurred around 2:50 am. The six people inside are all residents of Queen Charlotte and Skidegate. The driver had been drinking, Sgt. Knapton said, but was not over the legal limit. He received a three-day driving suspension. Sgt. Knapton said the accident illustrates the dangers of alcohol and driving, especially for passengers. “The key is, don’t get into a car with someone who has been drinking,” he said.A single-cab truck carrying six adults went over the side of the main road in Queen Charlotte in the early morning hours of Feb. 26 and landed upside down in the ocean.
