The numbers are in for June’s Gun Amnesty month, and those numbers are impressive.
Throughout the month, RCMP across the province took in unwanted or illegally owned firearms. Between Chilliwack, Agassiz and Hope, 39 rifles, 16 shotguns and 10 handguns were turned in. RCMP also accepted two cross bows, one long bow, three arrow heads, eight pellet pistols, one marine flare, five knives and one starter’s pistol.
A bunch of ammunition was also received.
βWe are thankful for the co-operation of the public to help make our communities a safer place to live by disposing of these unwanted weapons and fire arms,β said Cpl. Len vanNieuwenhuizen. βThe possibility of these weapons falling into the wrong hands and causing serious harm has been averted. The police are very appreciative of this.β
