The sun shone brightly last Saturday as the 7th annual Snowmobile Drag Races took to the Midway Airstrip, bringing dozens of racers out to compete for cash and trophies. Unlike last year’s event, which was dampened by wet weather, this year’s races took place in crisp, cool air and perfect snow.
Organizer Darrin Metcalf was pleased by the turnout of both sledders and spectators, who kept themselves warm with hot drinks and a blazing fire.
“Our gate traffic tripled over last year with more than $1,700 collected,” Metcalf said. “We had racers from as far away as Prince George, some from Kamloops and Princeton as well. Needless to say, we were very pleased with the event.”
Metcalf also mentioned a possible collaboration with Princeton and its snowmobiling community next winter, in the form of a racing points system to make the competition more than a one-day affair.
