Campgrounds in the Slocan Valley are receiving upgrades after New Denver, Silverton and Slocan received a $300,000 grant from the provincial government.
The grant is part of a $2.3-million investment in Kootenay tourism destinations, which was announced Tuesday by the Ministry of Tourism, Arts, Culture and Sport.
“People across the Kootenays are ready to come back stronger than ever before,” said Nelson-Creston MLA Brittny Anderson in a statement.
“Tourism is an important part of the Kootenays and by investing in projects and organizations that will attract even more visitors to our incredible region, we will recover quickly and build a thriving region for years to come.”
The Kootenay Mountaineering Club will also receive $167,000 to add a fifth cabin at Lost Lake on the Bonnington Traverse, while Castlegar Parks and Trail Society is using $53,000 to upgrade a 12-kilometre section of the TransCanada Trail between Nelson and Castlegar.
