A small fire at a church in Abbotsford turned out to be a case of mischief rather than arson, according to the Abbotsford Police.
They put out a call for video evidence surrounding a small fire on the south side of Central Heights church that took place about 8 p.m. on Wednesday (July 21). By Friday, police announced that they have identified the person involved and have concluded it was an isolated incident.
“[We] believe that there is no threat to the public or other places of worship,” said Cst. Angela Galos, Abbotsford Police Media Relations Officer.
At the time of the fire, the church was closed and unoccupied. No one was injured and the fire was extinguished with minimal damage.
There have been several fires at churches around B.C. in the past few weeks, including the St. George Coptic Orthodox Church in Whalley which was destroyed.
