The Vanderhoof fire department responded to a small fire at the Grand Reo Theatre last Wednesday evening.
17 firefighters worked to contain the fire that occurred inside the overhanging sign on the front of the building at about 8:30 p.m.
RCMP members blocked off Burrard Avenue at both intersections until the fire was completed extinguished.
Firefighters worked on the fire until approximately 11 p.m.
“We had it contained fairly quickly but we wanted to make sure we had chased it back as far as we could so there was no chance of rekindling,” said Vanderhoof Fire Chief Joe Pacheco.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but Pacheco suspects it might have been caused by an electrical problem.
The fire caused a minimal amount of damage to the point of origin, and no structural damage to the building.
The theatre was open for business as usual the following day.
