Snow falling at RMR ahead of opening day

Resort is set to open for season on Dec. 2

More than 10 centimetres of fresh snow has fallen at Revelstoke Mountain Resort.

Gnorm the Powder Gnome is fully engulfed in powder and the resort has entered the final preparations before opening day on Dec. 2.

The resort’s base depth is currently sitting at 119 cm and there’s more snow on the way.

The alpine forecast is calling for eight centimetres today and another 12 on Friday.

The resort was the site of explosive training yesterday and they say bombs can generally be heard going off in the morning throughout the winter as patrol readies the terrain.

The Highways around Revelstoke have seasonal conditions, with slush and slippery sections between town and Three Valley Gap on the Trans-Canada and water pooling to Craigellachie.

On Highway 23, DriveBC is reporting slushy with slippery sections. The same conditions are being reported east of Revelstoke until the western boundary of Glacier National Park.

In Revelstoke today, Environment Canada is predicting periods of rain or wet snow and a high of 3 C. It says there will be around two centimetres of snow overnight and between two and four centimetres is expected to fall Friday.
