The greens may be covered in snow but that won’t stop Fernie golfers getting out on the course this Griz Days.

Grizzly Snow Golf Open is a new event on this year’s program and will be hosted by the Fernie Golf Club senior leagues at the Fernie Golf Club on March 2.

Golfers and festivalgoers are encouraged to don their best Canadian tuxedos for Griz Days, which is themed “Griz Days Gone Denim”.

The 42nd annual winter festival will be held at various locations around Fernie from March 1-3, with events also scheduled for February 25 and 28.

This year’s program features many Griz Days staples, such as the Extreme Griz Challenge, Griz Days Parade and Griz Baby Crawl, as well as some new additions.

“It is exciting to see different organizations put their hand up to host events and volunteer,” said Fernie Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Patty Vadnais.

“This year we see it again with the Fernie Golf Club and Cast Iron Grill coming together to host the new Grizzly Snow Golf Open. Fernie Heritage Library is hosting the Snow Day StoryWalk and a book reading by Terry Nelson on his new Fernie Trails Book.”

For the second year running, The Arts Station will host a family-friendly theatre show, The Griz Myth Adventure, on the Friday, while the Fernie Nordic Society’s Snow to Ice (Cream) Challenge is also back by popular demand.

Many community groups and businesses will come together to help run Griz Town Station Square, which will be the centre of activity on Saturday night.

“The Griz Most Wanted is another way for local organizations to use Griz Days as a fundraiser,” said Vadnais. “Be on the watch out for this year’s shady characters. Volunteers from Denham GM, Fernie Brewing Company, Fernie Heritage Library and the Fernie Legion are all raising ‘bail’ for local groups. We are looking forward to an exciting and safe weekend of events for all ages.”
