A snowfall warning didn’t amount to much, and the rains are coming soon, according to the forecast.
The city got a few centimetres of snow, but not enough to be much of an interruption on Tuesday morning.
The City of Nanaimo, in a social media post, reports that “main roads are good with some slushy sections” and “side roads [are] covered with snow,” and says crews were brining through the night and plowing and salting since the early morning. The city asked that motorists drive carefully.
Schools are open and public transit is running as scheduled. B.C. Ferries reported “smooth sailing” at all terminals; however, HarbourAir and Helijet are seeing weather delays.
Environment Canada’s weather forecast suggests that the snow will turn to rain mixed with snow this afternoon, with snowfall accumulation of five centimetres on Tuesday. It will be windy near the Strait of Georgia late this morning and into the afternoon.
There is no more snow in the forecast, as Wednesday will see periods of rain and Thursday and Friday are expected to be rainy.
