The Snowed In Comedy tour will be making its annual stop in Golden on Wednesday, Jan. 29, with an all-star lineup that is sure to entertain the crowd.
This year’s lineup will feature Dan Quinn as the host, with comedians Paul Myrehaug, Pete Zedlacher and Damonde Tschritter rounding out the night.
All four acts are headliners in their own rights, with the Golden leg of the tour providing the most all-star punch according to Tschritter.
“Normally you only get one of these guys on the show, and a couple of seat warmers to fill the time until the headliner comes out,” said Tschritter. “Your going to have four hilarious guys right from the beginning, and they’re just as good as all the famous comics you see on Netflix. You can expect to laugh your ass off for two hours straight.”
The tour, which features an all-Canadian line up, provides an opportunity for local Golden residents to support the Canadian comedy scene, which is often overlooked due to the proximity of the American scene.
It can be hard for Canadian comics to break in to the American scene, explained Tschritter, as comics who are well established in Canada often have to start over from the beginning in order to make the jump to the American audience. It’s why supporting tours like the Snowed In Comedy Tour is so important.
“You should care about supporting your own artists in your country,” said Tschritter. “All four of us have done everything you can do in Canada, from Just For Laughs to CTV specials, to even some stuff in the States with HBO.”
So far, the tour has been experiencing resounding success, selling out shows to audiences of almost 1,000 in cities like Victoria and Vancouver.
In fact, audiences have been braving the blizzard-like conditions on the coast in order to make it out to the shows.
While the big cities are fun, it’s the small mountain towns such as Golden that have the best audiences, and often get the best shows, according to Tschritter.
“I find them really fun, because they’re a different sort of crowd, they’re a little bit wilder and crazier,” said Tschritter. “You wind up talking about something totally different than what was planned. You never have to play it safe in mountain towns. You feel like you have free range to do you best stuff, so they end up getting the best shows.”
Golden in particular is a favourite of many of the comedians on the tour.
“The whole reason we come to Golden is that everyone loves to snowboard,” said Tschritter. “We’re here to see Golden just as much as people are to come see us.”
The tour began in early January, and is making its way coast to coast, with stops in every province before wrapping up in the Maritimes at the end of April.
