A covert program and more RCMP checkstops are likely to thank for fewer snowmobiles being stolen in Revelstoke.
After 17 sleds were stolen in the winter of 2014, Staff Sgt. Kurt Grabinsky said that the number went down to four in 2015 and two each in 2016 and 2017.
He credits “better, more proactive” efforts for the decrease.

The bait sled program will be in place again this year, but because it is covert, Grabinsky wouldn’t share too many details.
He did say that in the winter of 2016 or 2017, one of the two sleds stolen was an RCMP bait sled.
Grabinsky encourages sled owners to take care of their machines and to have proper anti-theft measures in place.
