Children dashed to the finish line after a strenuous cross-country race.
The elementary, A.J. Elliot, held its annual district cross-country meetup on Oct. 24.
According to Melody Watson, principal at Sointula’s elementary, there were 12 schools that attended.
These include A.J. Elliott Elementary, Alert Bay Elementary, Sunset Elementary, Fort Rupert Elementary, Eagle View Elementary, Sea View Elementary, North Island Secondary, Port Hardy Secondary,T’lisalagi’lakw School, Gwa’sala-‘Nakwaxda’xw School, K’ak’ot’lats’i School, and from Gold River Ray Watkins Elementary.
The races held were for different age groups, which included races for children in grade two to those in high school.
The age groups include Tyke Boys, Peewee Boys, Peewee Girls, Bantam Boys, Bantam Girls, Open Boys, and Open Girls.
In total there were about 170 runners that participated in the cross country event.
The event had a short course for grades two, three and four for Tykes. They ran up to 1.7 kilometres, while all the others ran up to 2.7 kilometres.
