Cumberland is facing pickup delays for some of its refuse material.
The village office sent out a newsletter on Aug. 17 stating the contractor, Emterra, was out picking up remaining organics material or yard waste, but it would have to delay recycling pickup.
“We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause,” the village said in its newsletter. “Again, thank you for your patience and cooperation while regional municipal staff work with the contractor to resolve issues related to recurring delayed and missed collections due to a number of factors, including staff shortages and equipment failures.”
A new date and time have yet to be set for the recycling pickup, as the contractor is working out an alternative for the work to be completed. The village will update its website when it has new information.
Emterra contacted the village to notify it of the delay for Monday, Aug. 16. The work crew is aiming to complete the collection by 7 p.m. Tuesday. Anyone whose solid waste has not been picked up by 7 p.m. on collection day should bring in any food waste containers to be stored overnight and return the containers to the curb the next day. If the material has not been collected by the end of the next day, people should contact Emterra directly at 250-336-8066.
People are asked to use containers with carrying handles and waterproof covers with less than 120 litres in volume (do not use bags). They should limit the weight of containers to no more than 22kg (50lbs).

As far as the recycling collection scheduled postponed from Aug. 16, the contractor intends to reschedule service for later in the week.
