Some areas of Sage Mesa on permanent boil water notice

Water quality advisory and notice issued for the Sage Mesa area

A permanent boil water notice is in effect for some areas of Sage Mesa, which is located to the northwest of Penticton.

The Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen issued two notices earlier this week that after consultation with Interior Health they would put the Lower Zone of Sage Mesa (Sage Mesa Drive, Ladera Place, Pine Hills Drive, Solana Crescent and Verano Place) on a permanent boil water notice and a water quality advisory went out for the Upper Zone (Sandstone Drive, Sandstone Crescent, Sandpiper Lane, Forsyth Drive, Westwood Drive, Pinetree Place, Estates Place, Ryan Road, Ponderosa Place, Tyrone Place and Forsyth Place).

The Lower Zone boil water notice will remain in effect until the appropriate engineering upgrades are in place to provide the required chlorine contact time between the Lake Pump Station and the first customers of the system (Lower Zone).

The RDOS advises that residents should use a safe alternate source of water or to boil water for all drinking, oral hygiene and food prepartion/cooking purposes. Water should be brought to a full boil and allowed to boil for at least one minute to reduce the risk of infection from pathogens that may be found in the water.

Business owners/operators (bed and breakfasts) and public facility operators have the responsibility to notify the customers of those establishments of the boil water notice.

The upper zone water quality advisory is a level of notification below a boil water notice, however the RDOS said people with weakened immune systems, people with chronic illnesses, infants and children, the elderly and those wishing to seek additional protection should do so.
