South Delta crime beat, week of July 28

The purpose of the crime beat is to educate and inform the public about some of the property crime trends occurring in South Delta and other files of interest. It is submitted weekly by the Delta Police Department. If you see anything occurring that you believe to be suspicious, call 911 for in progress crimes and emergencies or 604-946-4411 for other assistance.

The following are some of the calls police responded to in the previous week:

Ladner

• July 29, 10:00 a.m., 4900-block Central Ave.: Police were called to assist Delta Fire with traffic for a broken gas main. FortisBC attended and fixed the gas main. Central Avenue was open to vehicle traffic 13 hours later.

• July 30, 11:00 p.m., 5800-block Ladner Trunk Rd.: Police observed a vehicle leaving a local liquor establishment. Police conducted a traffic stop and observed the vehicle swerve while trying to pull over. Police administered the alcohol screening device, which read a “fail” and resulted in the driver receiving a 90-day immediate roadside prohibition and their vehicle being impounded.

• July 30, 12:00 a.m., 6400-block Goudy Pl.: Police were called to a late report of a shed break-and-enter. The complainant reported that they had approximately $100 worth of items taken from their unlocked shed sometime in the last two weeks. Unfortunately, due to delay in reporting, there was nothing for police forensics to investigate.

• Aug. 1, 10:12 a.m., DPD Headquarters: Complainant reported that his credit card had approximately $2,400 worth of attempted fraudulent transactions. Police are following up with the victim to confirm dates and locations of the transactions.

• Aug. 1, 11:09 a.m., Arthur Drive and Whitworth Crescent: Police observed a vehicle blow past a stop sign and nearly run a red light. A traffic stop was initiated and police administered the alcohol screening device. The driver blew a “fail” and was served a 90-day immediate roadside prohibition, and her car was impounded.

Tsawwassen

• July 28, 11:00 p.m., 690-block 52nd St.: Police were called to a report of mischief whereby the complainant had their vehicle vandalized. A bystander had observed the incident and posted photos online. Police were able to identify the suspects, and the issue was resolved between the suspects’ families and the victim.

• July 29, 5:54 p.m., 5000-block 6th Ave.: Complainant called police reporting a group of youths knocking on the front door of her residence and running away. The complainant stated that the issue had been ongoing for a few weeks. On arrival, police located two of the youths who had returned to apologize. The parents of the other youths were contacted in person by police. All parties stated that they understood the seriousness of mischief and would not do it again.

• July 30, 10:12 a.m., Beach Grove Road and 12th Avenue: Police were dispatched to a driving complaint where a vehicle was observed exiting the dyke and failing to stop at the stop sign, crossing a double yellow line and failing to stop at the Beach Grove Road/12th Avenue stop sign. A warning letter was sent to the driver.

• July 30, 4:12 p.m., Kerry Drive: Complainant contacted DPD to report that her bike, which was left in her backyard, had been stolen. The complainant noted that in April a child’s bike and a scooter were also stolen from their property. Complainant was advised of Project 529.

• July 30, 5:27 p.m., Kerry Drive: Complainant reported to police that two bikes were stolen from the front patio of his residence overnight.

• July 30, 7:52 p.m., Ferry Causeway: Police were conducting patrols to locate a vehicle possibly involved in an assault. Police observed a vehicle matching the description and conducted a traffic stop. While speaking with the driver, the officer could smell a distinct odour of liquor emanating from the mouth. The alcohol screening device was administered and the driver blew a “fail.” The driver received a 90-day immediate roadside prohibition and his car was impounded.
