South Okanagan low-income dental clinic honoured as community hero

The dental clinic helps low-income adults and seniors in the South Okanagan

The Penticton Vees will be honouring the Henning Emergency Clinic of Kindness (HECK) dental clinic as a hometown community hero on their Dec. 1 home game.

The clinic, located out of Penticton and operating since 2015, assists low-income adults and seniors of the South Okanagan with access to emergency treatment.

The clinic operates two to three days a week thanks to the help of Dr. Devon Quinton (Summerland), Dr. Robert Johnson (Salmon Arm), Dr. Roger Harrington (Penticton), Dr. Andrew Dawn (Penticton) and Dr. Jesse Grewal (Penticton).

“We made a public announcement early in 2017 to examine and treat 150 patients during Canada’s 150th year,” states a release from the organization. “HECK has surpassed that goal with the generous support of (our doctors).”

The release mentions that the clinic has received ongoing sponsorships from Booster Juice, the Days Inn, and Backdoor Winery which allows for “sustainability of (its) services.”

“Treatment plans are made keeping financial barriers of clients in mind. Giving them the best outcomes within their limited budget,” states the release.

“Advocacy and information giving is a huge part of what qualified clients can expect from HECK. Our staff take the time to explain the steps needed to gain a healthier result when teeth are ‘beyond saving’.”

“We know our clients are grateful for the treatment they receive. We can see it in their smiles.”

Donations and support can be directed to heckhelp@shaw.ca.

The hockey game will start at 6 p.m. at the South Okanagan Events Centre against the Trail Smoke Eaters.
