South Penticton power outage

Some businesses are expected to remain without power for an estimated eight hours Oct. 10.

A garbage truck striking a utility pole is to blame for a power outage that may leave South Penticton businesses without power for hours, according to a social media post from Mayor Andrew Jakubeit.

Jakubeit posted that the truck had struck a three-phase transformer behind Andre’s Electronics Monday morning (Oct. 10).

The outage affects the Cherry Lane Shopping Centre, and according to Jakubeit “the first phase of restoration will be to isolate the lane running behind Tim Hortons (approx 1 HR) and restore power to 99% of the customers.”

Remaining outages include the strip mall customers on the west side of Skaha Lake Road S (north of the Tim Hortons). These customers are expected to be without power for at least eight hours as city crews clean up the mess, replace the broken pole and rebuild the transformer bank.
