Access to the Steinhoe and La La Valley trails by Spring Creek is being improved, with a larger parking lot and repaired gate by the city’s pumphouse.

B.C. Recreation Sites and Trails officer Bryan Last said they are also working on new signs to put in by the end of summer.

The 9.8K Steinhoe or Spring Creek trail connects to Kitselas Road, and the 3K La La Valley trail is a small branch that loops past two old farm sites and some old cabin remains.

Both are non-motorized and have a gate blocking the road.

A sign saying “no access” has previously caused confusion, turning away hikers who are welcome to use the trails.

More clear signs are being put together, specifying that hikers and bikers are welcome, but no motorized vehicles are allowed.

Some improvements had already been made, with the Spring Creek bank reinforced by Nechako Northcoast Construction, and the gate fixed by the City of Terrace, said Last from Rec Sites and Trails.

The new parking lot was paid for by a grant from the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure.
