Spring power scam surfaces

Spring has sprung and the scams have riz.

Vernon-North Okanagan RCMP are alerting the public to yet another type of scam making the rounds.

Police received a call from a concerned resident about a telemarketing attempt from Mississauga, Ont. trying to sell the “Power Save One.”

“The company promises to reduce power consumption in business and residential applications by 40 to 50 per cent,” said RCMP spokesperson Gord Molendyk of the scam. “The price for this sale has been reduced from $500 to $198.”

The person who called police is in the electronics industry and is aware there is no device on the market. He did some research and the Internet and found it to be full of warnings about this scam.

“The person who called the police office wished this matter be reported for information purposes as the scam has surfaced in our area,” said Molendyk.

“The warning is to everyone in the region as they are targeting both business and residential customers.”

A resident of the Armstrong area was contacted by a company who claimed they would come and activate it for them at a price of $180.
