Squatters may be cause of Friday morning house fire in Sardis

Police are investigating an early morning house fire on Vedder Road Friday that may have been caused by squatters.

Police are investigating an early morning house fire on Vedder Road Friday that may have been caused by squatters.

The fire that started in the apparently unoccupied house at 6007 Vedder Rd. just before 9 a.m. was quickly contained by firefighters, but tied up traffic in the area.

The house is located near the intersection of Watson Road and Promontory Road.

Last year, a number of fires in vacant buildings in Chilliwack were believed caused by squatters using them for shelter.
